Dr Fox pays tribute to ‘legend’ Tina Turner and her incredible legacy
DJ Neil Fox has paid tribute to Tina Turner and praised the “incredible legacy” she has left for future generations.
He told GB News: “The word legend is used an awful lot, far too much nowadays. But it’s a word that actually really does describe Tina Turner and her incredible life, and what an incredible legacy she leaves us.
“I think a lot of people were very sad this morning waking up, because her music literally brought a lot of joy to different generations, she has been incredible.”
“That 1984 Private Dancer album literally took the world by storm and she became this sort of incredible image of this strong, powerful new woman.
“We have to look back and realise what an impact this lady made, because she was the first black artist, incredibly, and the first woman to ever appear on the front cover of Rolling Stone magazine. So all those years back she was changing the rules and breaking the mould.
“And then of course, a new generation knew her from Private Dancer and then she had this incredible set of songs in the 80s and 90s. These big power ballads. She earned this title of the Queen of Rock and Roll, and she really did earn that.”
He added: “Amazingly, she went on till 2009 then decided she didn’t want to tour anymore. And that was it. So she had this incredible career .
“She really will leave an incredible legacy and an awful lot of artists owe an awful lot to her, particularly young female artists and of course, in the black community.
“The world has changed a lot now, thank god, but when she started out, my goodness, there was segregation and she had to bash against a lot of doors to be heard.”
