Dunelm helps Brits donate over 1,000 bags of decorations and 18,000 gifts to care homes in need this Christmas

Thousands of pre-loved Christmas decorations and 18,000 personalised gifts have been donated to care homes and charitable causes across the country, thanks to home furnishing retailer Dunelm’s Christmas campaign backed by TV personality Katie Piper.

With 63% of Brits admitting to buying new Christmas decorations every year, the ‘Deck the Halls’ campaign encouraged customers to donate spare or unused decorations to their local community, rather than discard them.

Thanks to the generosity of Dunelm’s colleagues and customers, 175 care homes and other community centres across the country have now been gifted with pre-loved baubles and festive ornaments – not only giving the donations a second life but also spreading festive joy to residents and carers this Christmas.

Campaign star Katie Piper, accompanied by Dunelm store champions, visited Lansdowne Care Home in London recently to personally hand deliver an abundance of donations and festive cheer to residents and staff.

Commenting on the campaign, Katie said: ““It was wonderful to see how warmly the decorations donated by Dunelm customers were received by the residents of Four Seasons Lansdowne Care Home – the campaign truly represented the spirit of giving this Christmas, so a huge thank you to all those who donated. It’s been a pleasure to be involved and watch the DunElves deliver joy across the nation.”

Not only was the campaign supported by Katie Piper but reality TV star Jess Wright, Great British Bake Off’s Candice Brown and singer Rachel Stevens also took to social media to support the initiative and encourage their followers to donate, resulting in thousands of customers and store colleagues contributing to the campaign.

Dunelm CEO Nick Wilkinson said: “We are absolutely blown away by the support we’ve seen for this campaign. The amount of donations collected is a testament to both our amazing customers and store colleagues and we’re so thankful for everyone’s generosity. All of the donations received really will make this Christmas much more joyful for those in need across the country, especially after another tough year.”

As well as driving the donation of decorations to care homes and other community groups, Dunelm has also provided £30,000 of generous care packages for those involved in the organisations. The packages aim to thank staff and carers for their hard work and dedication in the run up to the big day, with many of those receiving the packages planning to work on Christmas Day to help their local communities.

For the second year running, the homeware retailers also ran its hugely successful ‘Delivering Joy’ campaign, which saw 18,000 gifts being donated to local causes, by generous Dunelm customers and colleagues alike.

Stores partnered with local care homes, schools, refuges, and animal shelters, with shoppers able to pick up a Delivering Joy gift tag, personalised to the recipient, and donate a corresponding unsealed gift bag filled with gifts.
