In 1959, Elvis Presley took a very “secret vacation.” In 1958, Elvis Presley enlisted in the Army and transferred to Germany. His mother Gladys died during that same year and even though the barracks of the military seemed to be a sure-fold opportunity for privacy, Elvis still had a hard time escaping the fans and the media.

In the summer of 1959, Elvis booked himself into a guest house at Gederner See, a 35 km distance from the German Army base he was stationed at. He stayed in the guesthouse named “Finger” looking for seclusion. This time would later become known as his “secret vacation.”

Elvis spent time with a family and a young woman by the name of Rosemarie Prass. They enjoyed bike rides and short trips with a Messerschmidt bubble car. It was common to find Elvis seated at the table at the camp where he would spend much time. It was a German Beer Garden chair that Elvis found himself seated most of the time during this splendid time. Rosemarie Prass, who kept the chair, kept the “secret vacation” quiet for a very long time. It wasn’t until the 25th anniversary of Presley’s death that she revealed their time together in photos and storytelling. This German Beer Garden chair where Elvis often sat will now be auctioned or the very first time, accompanied by photographs from the “secret vacation” and documentation at Kruse GWS Auctions’ “Artifacts of Hollywood and Music” auction. One can only imagine the conversations Elvis led while sitting in this remarkable chair.
