Empty your drawers and dust off your boxes: Brits urged to cash in goods to ease festive finances

With festive holidays on the horizon and new pieces of tech being released and restocked in the run up, staying up to date with the latest gadgets can be a costly task.

Instead of letting old devices gather dust in the cupboard, shoppers are being advised to consider trading in their unwanted hardware to slash the cost of Christmas upgrades.

Money saving pros say that getting rid of outdated tech can ease the stress of affording new products, especially as general living costs across the UK have risen.

A spokesperson for NetVoucherCodes.co.uk said: “Since technology tends to depreciate in value quickly due to constant advancements, it’s always good to trade in unwanted items at the earliest opportunity.

“And with consoles, TV’s, laptops, and such like becoming seemingly more expensive – trading in old tech can take the pressure off the wallet and put money back into people’s pockets.

“Established brand name phones and cameras appear to hold their value better than other devices, so keep an eye out around the house to make some quick cash.”

A digital edition of the Playstation 5 is currently being restocked at retailers at a price point of £359.99, but by trading in Playstation 4 Slim edition this price is cut by just over £100- making it £258.99.

Similarly by cashing in an Xbox One 500GB console, Christmas shoppers can get the new Xbox Series X for around £365.99.

Parents looking to get their hands on the recent Nintendo Switch OLED model for their kids can do so for around £225.99 when trading in a Nintendo Switch Lite console.

The Apple iPhone X and Apple iPad Air 2nd Gen can be exchanged for £165 and £133 respectively.

Perhaps it comes as no surprise that items such as headphones and SMART watches are worth slightly less cash.

However, a Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 can be exchanged for around £58 and a pair of Beats Studio 2.0 Wireless Over-Ear headphones can get Brits £32 – every little helps when it comes to Christmas shopping.

Due to often having a higher initial retail value, DSLR cameras are an ideal gadget to cash in – the Canon EOS 250D for example in good condition can be worth £232.

SMART TV’s and laptops also have a high resale price like a SONY 55″ Smart Full HD Smart LED TV which can get shoppers £150 off the newest 4K model.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 can put an extra £156 in the pocket and be used towards the new Surface Pro 8 which was released last month.
