ENERGY PRICE CAP: ‘ABSENT’ GOVERNMENT MUST ACT IMMEDIATELY TO AVERT COST OF LIVING CATASTROPHE
Ministers asleep at the wheel as the UK faces a winter crisis, says GMB Union
With the energy price cap set to rocket today [26 August 2022], GMB has called for immediate action from the ‘absent’ Government to avert the looming cost of living catastrophe.
Andy Prendergast, GMB National Secretary, said:
“Successive Governments have been asleep at the wheel for years over the UK’s energy strategy.
“This latest price hike demonstrates the precarious position we’re in.
“GMB members, many of whom risked their own lives throughout the pandemic, deserve better than being plunged into destitution as they are forced to choose between eating and heating.
“Important decisions on replacing our ageing fleet of nuclear power stations and gas storage facilities have been ducked.
“Now the chickens are coming home to roost as the UK faces a winter crisis.
“We need this absent Government to act now and support the public who have been failed so badly.”
