Eurovision legend Cheryl on Liverpool success
BUCKS Fizz singer Cheryl Baker said she is thrilled the next Eurovision contest will take place in Liverpool.
She said: “I’m really happy for Liverpool. I’ve already contacted Kate Robins and Sonia saying, ‘have you got a spare room for me?
“I just think it’s fantastic. It’s always been Brighton, Edinburgh, Birmingham, London. It’s about time that it went to the north-west so I’m really thrilled it’s going to Liverpool.”
Recalling her win with Bucks Fizz in 1981 during an interview with Esther McVey and Phillip Davies on GB News, she said: “It was so nerve racking and the very last vote, I think it was Sweden, I can’t remember, who gave us enough points, that meant that Germany couldn’t catch us and Terry Wogan’s line was ‘I think they’ve done it, I don’t think they can be beaten, in fact I’m sure they can’t be beaten’.
“So that was the moment and it was literally that last vote that did it all for us. And I say to this day that those four points were down to the skirts coming off.”
Asked about her future plans, Cheryl said: “Over the next couple of years we’ll do another album, for a start, with the amazing Mike Stock who’s an absolute genius in the studio, from the Stock Aitken Waterman days.
“This is our fourth album with him. It’s all brand new songs. My daughter wrote a song on it, which I’m thrilled about, Jay wrote a song, there’s a cool McCartney song, and we all love it.”
She said a documentary about the group is coming out: “It’s insane because I don’t know what everyone else said about me, or what they said, you know, what I’ve said about them.
“I’m really interested to see it myself, it should be interesting watching.”
