eXp UK agent takes on charity bike ride to Edinburgh

With over 15 years’ of experience selling homes, eXp UK agent, Scott Gunn, is usually found tackling the housing market across the Isle of Thanet. However, Scott has swapped the current challenges of the UK property to test himself with a gruelling 600 mile cycle from Margate to Edinburgh in aid of the Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity.

Scott aims to raise at least £5,000 for Guy’s & St Thomas’, a charity that provides hospital and community-based healthcare, research and education for children and their families.

The cause is one close to his own heart, with the Evelina Children’s Ward at St Thomas’ Hospital helping Scott and his wife 12 years ago ahead of the birth of his daughter Boe.

Boe turns 12 on the 5th June, the day before Scott sets off for Scotland.

Scott aims to cover 600 miles between 6th June and when he hopefully reaches Edinburgh on 13th June.

The route will take him from Margate to Bishop Stortford, Grantham, York, Newcastle, Berwick Upon Tweed and finally to Edinburgh.

But the task had already thrown up a number of challenges before it had even started.
Having never cycled before, Scott purchased his first ever road bike, which was promptly stolen, requiring him to purchase a second bike before he could start training.

Training for two to three hours a day over the last five months, Scott has had two unscheduled dismounts and has also been subject to a mugging while stationary at a set of traffic lights.

As an eXp UK agent, Scott will have some world class support behind him, not only from the network’s vast number of member agents, but also from recently announced brand ambassador, Steve Backley, who will be on hand to provide Scott with motivation at the halfway point.

Scott’s arrival in Edinburgh also coincides with eXp UK’s Edinburgh Roadshow and he will be greeted at the finish line by guest speaker and footballing legend, Kevin Keegan.
For those who might wish to donate, you can do so via Scott’s Just Giving page.

eXp UK Property Professional, Scott Gunn, commented:

“The first time in my life I’ve felt completely helpless was when my wife and I received the news that our daughter may have a heart defect and her chances of survival were slim at best. Within 24 hours we found ourselves at the Evelina Children’s Ward which is part of the Guy’s & St Thomas’ Trust and the staff were nothing short of exceptional.

Our experience turned out to be a positive one, but we were humbled by the fact that not everyone that visits the ward receives the same good news we did. The Evelina Children’s Ward delivers exceptional care to children and families in dire circumstances and they do it with respect and humanity.

Since that day, I’ve wanted to do something to give back but I knew it had to be something challenging. On a recent train ride from Margate to Edinburgh and while enjoying the spectacular views, I thought to myself, I wonder if I could complete this trip by bike.

I’m not a cyclist, but the answer must have clearly been yes, because here I am. Hopefully, I look forward to seeing the rest of the eXp UK family on arrival in Edinburgh, but in the meantime, any donation, regardless of how much, would be greatly appreciated.”
