FANCY A PINT? MARMITE TO PUT TOAST TOPPER ON TAP FOR FIRST TIME EVER

Following a year of pub closures, the production of brewer’s yeast – Marmite’s number one ingredient – slowed, meaning supplies of Marmite became as valuable and tightly guarded as the Crown Jewels. With the return to pubs and taps flowing in full force again, Marmite is celebrating with a special tap of its own.

Those that love the iconic breakfast spread can now rejoice, as it will be on tap exclusively at The Horseshoe Pub in Camden, London for one day only – offering Brits the chance to fill an empty jar – provided by the brand – for free.

From midday on the 14th July, up to 100 lucky (if you’re a lover) pub-goers will have the opportunity to fill an empty jar with the savoury spread direct from a beer tap, fitted to the bar. Haters beware: watch out that your usual pint of Camden Hells isn’t swapped for a pint of the sticky stuff.

For many Brits, the news that Marmite is a byproduct of the brewing process may come as a surprise. The basic raw material used in the manufacture of Marmite Yeast Extract is brewer’s yeast. Yeast is essential in the brewing process to produce fermentation, during which the yeast multiplies and creates a large surplus. Formerly, brewers found great difficulty in disposing of the surplus and regarded it as a waste material. Now, much of the surplus yeast produced throughout the country is put to use through the production of Marmite.

Sophie Allan, Brand Manager at Marmite, said:
“Many of us breathed a sigh of relief when the pubs reopened again, and at Marmite we had double the cause for celebration as the nation’s favourite toast-topper is so intrinsically linked with the brewing industry. To celebrate the pulling of taps once more, we want to offer some lucky lovers (or haters) the chance to fill their boots – or jars – with the black stuff. It’s the yeast we could do after the year we’ve all had.”

A limited run of up to 100 jars will be provided to consumers for filling, on a first come, first served basis. To ensure government guidelines are adhered to, social distancing will be in place for any queuing with limited numbers of persons allowed on the premise at any one time. Additionally, no personal or BYO jars will be allowed to be filled.
