Harry and Meghan ‘are really going to damage the monarchy’
THE DUKE and Duchess of Sussex are pursuing a “vicious vendetta” designed to cause “real damage” to the monarchy , according to a leading royal biographer.
In the wake of the release of a trailer for their Netflix docu-series, Andrew Lownie told GB News: “Well, I think it’s just a new level of attacks on the royal family. I think it’s really sad. Of course, this is going to play well in America, which is what it’s meant to do.
“The sad thing is we now have two different narratives, their narrative which seems to be approved by the Americans, and the reality, and I feel very sorry for the royal family because there’s very little they can do to respond to this.”
“It’s nothing to do about what goes on in the States but I think people are beginning to rumble them.
“Their so-called pleas for privacy and things, they’re basically manipulating their position for their own personal gain. I think this is a very serious moment for the monarchy, actually far more than Prince Andrew or anything else. These are the people that are likely to really damage it.”
On the Duchess of Sussex, he suggested: “She’s a very nasty piece of work I’m afraid, and people recognised this very early on, but he’s obsessed with her and there’s nothing much you can do.
“He’s clearly a very damaged young man and she’s been able to capitalise on that. I think we’re just very interested to see the route the two brothers have taken under very different marriages.
“It’s a human tragedy but of course it has huge consequences for this country.”
Mr Lownie said: “The narrative is shaped by people who begin to believe these things. We already have a rather distorted narrative from The Crown and I’m afraid people do believe these things.
Meanwhile royal commentator Nicolas Owen said: “Netflix has got a Corker here. Absolute Corker, haven’t they?
“The rest of us might be going, ‘oh, dear goodness, do we have to go through this?’ but having paid $100 million, about £85 million for it, they’re absolutely determined to get the story out there one way and another.”
He added: “I was talking to someone who’s very much involved in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex…who said to me the person in charge was Meghan, she was very much the one and Harry did as he was told basically, and I think most of us will feel that’s what’s going on here.
“I mean, she’s a Hollywood person after all, she knows the way the system works.”
The comments come in the wake of a GB News poll which shows widespread support for Kate and William compared to Harry and Meghan.
More than half of the public (56%) see William and Catherine as better adverts for the monarchy abroad, according to a GB News poll.
This compares to 8% who opted for King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, and 7% who selected Prince Harry and Meghan. The remaining 29% said they “didn’t know” or “preferred not to say”.
The survey of 1,208 adults was carried out by PeoplePolling, a member of the British Polling Council (BPC)
