HOMEBUILDER HELPS BINGHAM PUPILS PLANT POPPIES ON REMEMBRANCE DAY

Barratt Homes recently donated poppy seeds to a school in Nottinghamshire to help its pupils commemorate fallen heroes this Remembrance Day.

Children at Robert Miles Infant School in Bingham were given the seeds by the leading developer, which have been planted at the school as part of the Armistice memorial.

Poppies form a significant part of Remembrance Day and, whilst honouring the annual tribute, the children have been able to enjoy their learning in an outdoor environment and can look forward to seeing their seedlings bloom in the school’s grounds.

Sonja Adams, Head Teacher at Robert Miles Infant School, said: “We are grateful to Barratt Homes for the generous donation. Our school grounds are vast and we are always looking at what we can grow there. These seeds will make a colourful addition to our school and help us remember those around the globe who are impacted by war and conflict.”

The school is close to the homebuilder’s Romans’ Quarter development, which has been a place of remembrance since it launched in 2018 when the community united to pay homage to the fallen of Bingham as part of the World War One Centenary.

As part of the 2018 event, Barratt Homes joined forces with the Royal British Legion, Bingham Heritage Trails Association, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Bingham Town Council and the Mercian Regiment of the British Army for a remembrance occasion at the development on Dunsmore Avenue.

At the time of the event, more than 900 pupils across three schools in the local area – including Robert Miles Infant School – painted poppies onto house bricks which formed two giant wreath installations at the entrance to the development.

Having continued its engagement with the school, the leading developer’s recent donation of poppy seeds has involved a new group of pupils on Remembrance Day.

Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “Our Romans’ Quarter development is a fantastic addition to the Bingham community in helping local people remember the town’s fallen.

“Robert Miles Infant School had a significant part in the tribute four years ago, and it was great to work with the new pupils to enable them to play their part on Remembrance Day.”
