Melania Giofré, originally from Italy, relocated to London in 2008. There, she completed a master’s degree in communication and obtained a diploma in freelance journalism, contributing to various online publications. She currently lectures at a fashion college in London, though her true passion is writing imaginative stories. Jonny and the Mystery of the Sun Disc is her debut children’s novel.
Melania explains: “Like Jonny, I’m fascinated by the mysterious world of dreams, especially lucid dreams.
Since being a little girl, I’ve had vivid dreams that I jot down in my dream journal. Some of these entries have inspired the fantasy world Jonny travels to. But my inspiration also came from other sources. Growing up, I was immersed in Greek myths, fantasy books, and Disney films.”
“The idea of the Sun Disc comes from an old Inca legend I heard about during my 2015 trip to Peru. The legend says that around 30,000 BC, the Disc was placed on a solid stone altar in the greatest temple of the Divine Light of the Motherland of MU in Peru. It served several purposes: as an object of adoration and as a symbolic representation of the Cosmic Sun and the Creator. Some people even believe it wasn’t just a legend and that the Disc had magical powers. I’ve heard there’s a replica still kept at the Temple of the Sun in Cuzco. I’ve never really dug too much into it, but it felt like the perfect inspiration for a story!”
