A Mecca Bingo survey revealed today that over a quarter of Brits (28%) are desperate to makeover their homes, with just under a fifth (15%) admitting they had never actually redecorated their house at all.

Research from the nation’s original bingo brand has discovered that Brits feel they would need to spend an average of almost £4,000 (£3,837) in order to feel happy with their homes.

To help Britons turn this around, Mecca is celebrating the wonders of redecoration and refreshment with the launch of Mecca Dream Come True, a chance for bingo lovers to win a life changing home or beauty makeover worth £20,000.

With the survey finding that 17% can’t afford the soaring costs of DIY, and a tenth (10%) having had to postpone their home improvements because of the pandemic, Mecca wants to help make these dreams a reality.

However, the survey also found that some Brits are DIY lovers, revealing that one in five people (22%) did more DIY and home improvements throughout the pandemic, with an average of £716 spent per household each year. Greater Londoners spend the most, averaging a whopping £1,190, whilst at just £508 Sheffield residents spend the least.

It also revealed that we’ve not been able to keep up with the rising costs of beauty treatments, as almost a third (31%) of women say they can’t afford to have their hair and nails done. The survey also discovered that in addition to this, 32% of British women have stopped treating themselves to luxuries such as spa days, due to the need to prioritise other spending.

Research also found that almost a fifth (19%) of British women have over 10 unworn tops in their wardrobes, so Mecca wants to ensure that one lucky person can have the clothes they’ll want to wear on repeat. Bingo lovers may have grown accustomed to leisurewear whilst playing on during lockdown, but now they need a shiny new wardrobe for the return of nights out.

Kate Middleton proved the nation’s favourite style icon, with one in six women (16%) bowled over by her fashion sense, whereas almost one fifth (19%) of Brits are craving the return of 80s fashion.* With over a quarter (26%) of the British public admitting to having lied about their age, and 28% feeling that they dress younger than their age, there’s no better time to let Mecca give you the makeover of a lifetime.

Catherine Warrilow, Head of PR & Content at Mecca Bingo, said: “Mecca Dream Come True is the perfect opportunity for customers in clubs and online at to win their dream home or beauty makeover. With our research showing the nation is desperate to bring a fresh breath of life into their homes and wardrobes, we can’t wait to find our lucky winner.”
