HOUSEBUILDER DONATES ROBIN NESTS TO LOCAL PRIMARY SCHOOL

To celebrate World Environment Day (5th June), housebuilder Dandara has donated robin nests to Yapton C of E Primary School. The housebuilder, who’s Paddock View development is located just down the road from the school on North End Road, is hoping to support the local robin population who’s territorial habits and high mortality rates – particularly during the winter months – mean that their numbers could drop rapidly if they do not have a fresh supply of food and a cosy nest to live in*.

The robin brushwood nests are supplied by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and will provide a home for robins, especially during the colder months, and offer a cosy nesting space away from predators and threats on the ground. The robin nests have been installed in quiet areas of the playground in hollows, climbing plants and tree roots which give a concealed location for the birds to rest and lay eggs. The nests will be regularly monitored by pupils and teach the importance of caring for the environment and nature around them.

Nicki Dennis, Head of Sales at Dandara Southern, comments: “As a responsible housebuilder, we try to help local wildlife and the environment wherever possible and couldn’t be happier to partner with Yapton CofE Primary School again for this important campaign to protect robins. We hope that the pupils enjoying learning about robins and monitoring the nests from afar.”

Kim Huggett, Head Teacher at Yapton CofE Primary School, adds: “Whilst robins are on the green conservation list, it is never too early to take steps to ensure the birds safety. World Environment Day was a great way to highlight our responsibility for the local wildlife and the importance of protecting it. We are looking forward to monitoring the nests and hope it makes a lovely home for some robins!”

Yapton CofE Primary School and Dandara have an ongoing partnership which has already seen the pupils naming the streets at its Paddock View development, a donation of mud towards the schools ‘mud kitchen’, a donation of bee hotels as well as the donation of the ‘Book Nook’.

Dandara is currently selling its new homes at Paddock View in Yapton, just 0.2 miles away from Yapton Primary CofE School, where a collection of three-bedroom homes is available, with prices starting from £415,000.
