Housebuilder supports local school’s year 4 camping trip

Local Kent housebuilder, Barratt David Wilson Homes, recently donated £3,000 to The Stour Academy Trust, who support local primary schools across Kent as part of its Community Fund Scheme. The Trust is located in close proximity to the housebuilder’s The Woodlands and Saxon Fields developments in Sturry and Thanington respectively.
The Stour Academy Trust supports eight primary schools in Kent, focusing on providing high-quality education through innovative teaching methods and a strong emphasis on collaboration between schools. The trust aims to provide primary education with a strong emphasis on technology, creativity and collaborative learning, supporting the schools with shared resources, training and educational strategies.
Every year, Year 4 children at Sturry Church of England Primary School are given the opportunity to attend a free residential camping weekend in June, which is organised by The Stour Academy Trust. With the help of Barratt David Wilson Kent’s donation, the Trust can offer this to the students again this year free of charge, including activities like team games, orienteering, archery, laser tag, woodland survival skills, bouncy castles and more. Outdoor experiences provide opportunities for development and growth, including confidence boosting, social skills building, mental well-being support, environmental awareness, risk taking and connecting with nature.
The £3,000 donation comes from The Barratt Foundation, the housebuilder’s charity partnership, which aims to support local charities and groups wherever Barratt Redrow operates across the UK.
Michelle Mannings, Headteacher at Sturry CE Primary School, said: “At the Sturry EC Primary School, we pride ourselves on providing our pupils with the best possible education they can receive. We recognise that our education system needs to change and shift to close equity gaps and to better prepare our future generations. With donations like Barratt David Wilson Kent’s, we can offer pupils different ways of learning whether that is through our camping trip or interactive methods through the likes of technology. We are looking forward to seeing the pupils enjoy yet another camping trip and take part in a number of valuable activities that will contribute to their education.”
Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt David Wilson Kent, added: “Children are our future, so ensuring they have engaging educations is important to their success. The work that The Stour Academy Trust offers to local schools is fantastic, with interactive learning opportunities throughout the year. We are pleased that our donation will enable the Sturry Church of England Primary School’s annual camping trip to be offered to pupils for free again, and we can’t wait to hear about what they get up to!”
Barratt David Wilson Kent has a selection of homes available at The Woodlands development in Sturry, with a range of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes now available to view. Prices start from £122,498 for a two bedroom home based on a 50% share.
