Houseproud Brits to spend £11 MILLION on handwash this Christmas

As Brits prepare to open their homes to guests over the festive period, the UK’s number one home décor brand Baylis & Harding is predicting a rush in sales of luxury handwash, as the ‘Posh Loo Effect’ takes full hold.

The brand, which aims to bring a touch of luxury to every home and is well-loved for its iconic handwashes, predicts that sales of luxury handwashes will increase by almost 20% in December, as we look to impress house guests this Christmas. [i]

One in five of us will upgrade our usual handwash or soap to a more luxury brand or range, with sales of two-piece sets, which feature matching handwash and hand cream, also on the rise at this time of year.

When it comes to scent, this year’s trends tap into this idea of festive luxury, with fragrances including pomegranate, oud and festive mulberry proving to be most popular amongst consumers.

Last year, Baylis & Harding sold 1.2million bottles of handwash sold in December, which is an increase of 25% month on month.

Tania Slater, co-owner and creative director, at Baylis & Harding, said: “Being house proud has never been more on trend, with Brits looking for products which not only smell great but are beautiful enough to display in their home.

“A well-designed handwash can bring that little touch of luxury to any bathroom or kitchen sink, which is why every bottle in our handwash ranges has been designed with the latest interior design trends in mind.

“Christmas is usually one of our busiest times of year, as we see demand for our luxury handwashes increase. We call it the ‘Posh Loo Effect’ as people prepare to offer their festive guests a little touch of luxury.”
