How to nail the ‘jewellery stacking’ trend

New research by online jewellery brand PRYA has revealed that searches for ‘necklace stack’ have increased on Pinterest, 80% month on month [MoM] and 500% year on year [YoY].

Searches for ‘ring stack’ have also increased 30% MoM and 300% YoY, but what exactly is jewellery stacking?

The jewellery stacking trend means layering multiple pieces of jewellery, typically rings, bracelets, necklaces and sometimes earrings. The idea is to layer various pieces to create a personalised and unique look.

Arwa Hassan, jewellery specialist and co-founder of PRYA shares her top do’s and don’ts when it comes to jewellery stacking.

She said: “The trend allows people to mix and match various jewellery styles, materials and designs to express their personal style and create a visually appealing and eye-catching look.

“We predict that layered necklaces will continue to be a huge trend as we head into autumn. Layering different lengths and styles of necklaces creates a warm and textured look that complements the layered clothing in autumn and winter.”

Necklace stacks do’s and don’ts

Do

Mix different lengths: Layer necklaces of varying lengths to create visual interest. A combination of short, mid-length and long necklaces works well.
Start with a focal point: Begin with a focal necklace that you want to be the centrepiece of your layered look. This could be a pendant, a name necklace or a statement piece.
Use varying chain types: Experiment with different chain styles and thickness to add character and dimension to your layers. Mix delicate chains with chunkier ones for balance.
Create contrast: Combining different materials, textures and metals to achieve contrast and prevent the layers from blending together.
Consider neckline and outfit: Choose necklaces that complement the neckline of your clothing. For example, longer necklaces pair well with V-neck or scoop-neck tops, while shorter necklaces suit high necklines.
Don’t

Overcrowd: While layering is about wearing multiple necklaces, avoid overcrowding your neck. Aim for a balanced and elegant look rather than piling on too many pieces.
Go too matchy-matchy: While some coordination is good, avoid overly matching necklaces. A bit of contrast and variation adds visual interest.
Over bulk: Extremely chunky necklaces might not layer well, as they can overwhelm the look. Opt for a mix of chunky and delicate pieces for balance.
Use lots of length: Avoid layering necklaces with lengths that are too extreme. Extremely short and extremely long necklaces might not blend well together.
