Hurtigruten celebrates 130 years with Norwegian garden at Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2023
Hurtigruten Norway has been awarded a silver-gilt for ‘The Relation-Ship Garden’ at Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, just in time for their 130th anniversary.
The Scandinavian inspired garden, designed by award winning designer Max Parker-Smith pays homage to the 130-year long relationship Hurtigruten has built with the Norwegian coastal community and farmers who have helped supply their ships over the years.
Designed with a sense of discovery and outdoor adventure that is associated with the Scandinavian landscape, the medal winning garden features various pathways that take horticultural enthusiasts into and around the space. Inspired by the productive nature of the land, the garden features edible plants and an array of ornamental flowers planted alongside an exciting selection of trees. Acting like sleeping giants, large, locally sourced Granite boulders are dotted around the space for visitors to climb on and walk around, mimicking the Norwegian coastal landscape.
Anthony Daniels, VP Sales & Marketing at Hurtigruten Norway said: “Max has truly captured the heritage of Hurtigruten, the beauty of the Norwegian landscape, and our long-standing relationship with an incredible community of coastal suppliers in his design. For over 130 years, we have inspired generations of travellers to experience the most beautiful coastline in the world. After enjoying an exciting glimpse of what this dramatic coastline has to offer, we hope visitors to this year’s show feel encouraged to explore Norway for themselves.”
In line with Hurtigruten’s commitment to a sustainable future, all plants and materials featured in the garden will be relocated to new homes in partnership with the #WeTwo Foundation which empowers underprivileged young people through life-changing adventures.
