Iconic dance music magazine DJ Mag to be re-invented as premium quarterly edition
Iconic UK dance music magazine, DJ Mag is to be re-invented as a quarterly edition with triple the previous shelf-life, triple the distribution, increased pagination and vastly improved paper quality — all combining to create a highly-collectible, heavyweight edition that meets the demands of modern readers while continuing as the flagship focal point of the global DJ Mag brand.
Since originally launching in 1991, as a magazine to report on the emerging UK rave scene, DJ Mag grew to become the global voice of dance music. Initially operating as a fortnightly, before shifting to a monthly edition at the dawn of the internet era, 2025 will mark the next stage in the iconic magazine’s evolution.
Ahead of the relaunch — with the first issue being released in January 2025 — DJ Mag is undergoing a full creative rework, sharpening focus on a clean and modern design aesthetic that will showcase an increase in original photography across at least 180 feature-packed pages per issue. Each cover will be produced in matte-laminate, and both the cover and internal paper stock is being upgraded to ensure every photo and word is crisp on the page.
Each edition will feature three cover stars, on even rotation on the newsstand shelves, allowing DJ Mag to continue to celebrate a wide range of artists, while adding a collectible element to the new edition. While the covers will be distributed evenly and at random, all three full-length cover features will be included in each edition.
DJ Mag editor Carl Loben said
“Along with the rest of the team, I’m excited to be bringing DJ Mag into its next phase of evolution. Electronic dance music is a perpetually exciting movement, forever changing, and is now bigger globally than ever. As the flagship publication, this new quarterly edition will allow us to increase focus on the in-depth, discerning, internationally relevant long-form features DJ Mag has specialised in for many years. I can’t wait to get cracking!”
With more social media followers than any other dance music media brand, over 1.2m YouTube subscribers, more than 100 global events each year and products spanning print, digital, video, broadcast, awards and events, DJ Mag is already well established as a global multi-media brand. As the last UK dance music magazine still available in print, the shift to a quarterly premium format will allow DJ Mag to continue to support the format so loved by artists and readers alike, alongside the industry-leading digital and video content for which the brand is renowned.
The quarterly edition of DJ Mag will be available on newsstand priced at £7.99 per issue with a 12 month subscription priced at just £27.99, a saving of over £1 per issue. Current subscribers to the monthly magazine are being granted two years of the new quarterly subscription free of charge in recognition of their loyalty.
The next edition of DJ Mag, the November Top 100 DJs edition will be the final monthly copy on sale, before the first quarterly edition will be released in January 2025.
