Kevin Spacey: ‘There’s been huge justice and injustice’ says media lawyer

THE acquittal of actor Kevin Spacey is a bittersweet victory and would have cost him up to £2 million in legal fees, according to a prominent media lawyer.

Jonathan Coad told GB News: “This is an instance where there’s been huge justice and injustice at the same time.

“Mr Spacey has been found guilty by social media and to some extent the whole of the media for years ever since these allegations arose…

“He will have had to pay vast sums of money in defending himself and the stain on his character is going to still be online, however hard his lawyers will try to get rid of this, and I’ve done this many times for clients, it’s not easy to clear all this off.”

In a discussion with Nana Akua, he continued: “It is very, very difficult for him. The law for understandable reasons gives enormous amount of protection to those that make allegations of sexual misconduct. It’s absolutely understandable why that’s done.

“The problem is that in situations like this it creates the most immense injustice. Now Mr Spacey will know that none of these names of the four accusers will be published, even though the court has found that they’ve lied, [and] there is no recourse against him, almost certainly, because these allegations are protected from, let’s say, a defamation claim.”

He added: “A full trial with a top team of solicitors and barristers, would cost £1 million to £2 million pounds at least.

“He’s been cancelled by the whole film industry. He’s effectively at the moment without any means of earning a living…his career may have suffered irreparable damage through this.”
