Last chance for women to win place on plumbing course

Women are being given the chance to kickstart a career in plumbing by winning a place on an accredited training course in Dagenham – and the deadline has been extended to enter the competition.

Leading materials supplier TG Lynes has launched its Plumbing HERoes campaign for a second year, giving one winner the chance to take the first steps into the industry by securing a place on a City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 Domestic Plumbing & Heating course.

The deadline for entries has been extended to midnight on April 27 to give more women the chance to put themselves forward. People in the industry can also nominate someone else for the prize.

Visit https://www.tglynes.co.uk/page/campaigns/plumbing-heroes-2025 to enter by explaining in no more than 200 words why you should win.

The training programme is run by leading provider Choice Training and would normally cost more than £3,000 to complete.

The Level 2 qualification is required to obtain a Plumbing JIB Card, which demonstrates proficiency.

The course is a blend of online and in-person training at Choice’s base in Dagenham. The winner will also receive hundreds of pounds of tools from TG Lynes.

Andrew Ingram, Director at TG Lynes, said: “It is well-reported that women are under-represented in the trades and particularly in plumbing.

“We want to encourage more females to consider plumbing and heating as a career and, as an integral part of the supplies industry, we’re delighted to be running Plumbing HERoes again.

“We are offering a phenomenal prize that will help one winner take the first steps on what we hope will be an exciting and successful journey.

“If you are interested in starting a new challenge – or you want to nominate someone else to win – be sure to get your entry in by the end of April 27.”

Last year’s winner was Ashleigh Stent from Northampton, who is currently sitting the first of her exams as she prepares for what she hopes will be a lifetime on the tools.

The 26-year-old said: “Winning Plumbing HERoes was a huge moment for me.

“It has been a really enjoyable year with Choice Training and my knowledge has increased dramatically.

“I’d recommend the course to anyone who wants to explore plumbing and heating as a career.”

Any woman over the age of 16 can enter. A team of judges will select a winner whose passion and determination catch the eye.

The winner will be able to start the course at their convenience. They will have three years to complete the training, but most people take between 10 and 12 months.

TG Lynes stocks industry leading brands and supplies thousands of products including valves, steel and copper tubes and fittings, press systems, composite and plastic plumbing, drainage solutions, support systems and tooling. An extensive plant hire service is also available.
