LAUNCH OF ‘THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OUTDOOR CINEMA IN THE WORLD’ WAS ABSOLUTE SCORCHER

Wavelength Media’s Drive-In Summer Cinema Series 2021 launched in Cornwall this week during a scorching heatwave to the backdrop of stunning sundowners, live and energetic performances from the original ‘buoy band’, The Fisherman’s Friends and some spectacular cinema on an epic state-of-the-art LED screen.

Alfresco cinemagoers comprising families, couples and surf alumni were enjoying soaking up the cool Cornish atmosphere, mingling safely in fresh air freedom atop the clifftop looking back over Newquay and the salty surfers of Watergate Bay. Visitors were seen sipping on the complimentary Sipsmith Glider and Tonics, pints of Lucky Saint non-alcoholic beer and bopping to the chilled-out tunes whilst waiting for the movie to start.

Film screenings will continue over the following weekends, every Thursday through to Sunday, at 12pm and 6.45pm, until the final curtain call on Sunday 5th September. This year’s series has lots going on for families; from live music, singalongs and socially distanced games. To satiate tummy rumbles, there are plenty of locally-sourced food options available, delivered direct to vehicle doors throughout the evening ensuring no queues and maximum safety.

In addition, always catering for a local market, the Wavelength Media team is offering a local’s discount of 20% for residents who book online. Visitors who live in Cornwall should simply use the code ‘LOCALS20’ when booking, typing in their postcode, to take advantage of this fantastic offer (excluding Sunday viewings of Fisherman’s Friends).

Every visitor throughout the summer series will receive a complimentary exclusive bar of ethical brand Tony’s Chocolonely chocolate, a refreshing pint of Lucky Saint non-alcoholic beer, a Sipsmith FreeGlider and Tonic overlooking the ocean (a non-alcoholic gin and tonic) and a Jimmy’s Iced Coffee – all of which are perfect ‘drivers’ drinks’ and in full keeping with the family-oriented focus of the sessions. For passengers who fancy something stronger, there is a fully stocked bar of refreshing alcoholic options.

Guy Hayler, director of the Wavelength team says, “We had such an amazing time at the launch weekend of the Drive In Series. The weather was very kind to us and everyone was having a great time making the most of it all. We’re really keen to give people more than just a cinema experience which is why we have created an authentic festival feel. We have incredible locally-sourced food and drink vendors, pop-up retail outlets, a picnic section which you can bring your own food to and chill out zones. It’s the perfect daytime activity for families here in Cornwall and is also weatherproof – if it rains, we will deliver everything to your car door so you can still enjoy the experience from the comfort and dryness of your own vehicle!”

Guy continued, “Most family-friendly tourist attractions are already booked up for the whole summer with tourists having to be organised and book before their trips. But with space for over 200 cars and vans at every viewing, the Cinema Series still has plenty of tickets available, though they’re selling fast, so make sure you get yours today!”

There will be 21 showings throughout the summer and the line-up includes movies such as The Goonies, Moana, the Lion King, Jaws, Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as brand-new additions to the line-up; Free Willy and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Tickets for the drive-in events are available at a cost of either £6 per person or £26 per car or van and driver with a maximum of five people per vehicle. This year, the team is also offering the option to purchase an open-air cinema ticket for £7 per head. Ongoing announcements will also be made on Wavelength’s Instagram account which can be accessed at @wavelengthsurfmag throughout the summer.
