Budding Harry Kanes and Chloe Kellys in Lawford have been given a boost towards achieving their dream thanks to a new sports fund backed by former England cricketer Darren Gough.
The £75,000 Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund aims to support teams based in rural communities across the broadband company’s full fibre network, which spans 26 counties.
Two sets of goal posts have been netted by the club to help the young footballers develop their shooting skills and help them progress.
Club Chairman John Duchars said: “The 7×7 goalposts and intermediate 11×11 goalposts will support the development of our youth and junior teams as the club continues to experience strong growth in participation by both boys and girls.
“As a charity we seek to make participation in grassroots football available to as many individuals as possible within the local community by keeping our membership fees low. We depend on the generosity of those who volunteer or donate funding to help the club achieve its charitable objectives. We are grateful to both the Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund and the Football Foundation for their support.”
Fund ambassador Darren Gough said: “Since launching the fund, it has gone from strength to strength, providing valuable support where it is needed most. It’s great to see so much kit and equipment being sent out to rural sports clubs such as Lawford FC. I believe it will help make a difference to players now and to the rural sports teams of the future.”
The club, whose teams play their matches in School Lane, has over 250 players registered across three senior teams, including a women’s team, and 14 teams in the youth and junior section, from U7s upwards.
More than 2,500 homes and businesses in Lawford and Manningtree are now able to access Gigaclear’s full fibre broadband offering ultrafast speeds up to 900Mbps. For more details, visit Gigaclear.com
