Local charity receives £1000 donation to tackle carbon emissions
Eastbourne charity Treebourne has received a £1,000 donation towards its tree planting initiative from local housebuilder Barratt Southern Counties, who is building new homes at its Meadowburne Place development on St Martins Road in Eastbourne.
The donation will be used to fund Treebourne’s recently launched tree planting campaign. The tree planting initiative is part of the organisation’s wider mission for Eastbourne to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Gareth Jones, a spokesperson for Treebourne, said: “We are grateful to Barratt Southern Counties for its generous donation towards our tree planting campaign and their support for our mission to make Eastbourne carbon neutral by 2030. It’s great for us to have the support of local businesses, and we hope this inspires other companies in Eastbourne to take action.”
The money has been awarded through Barratt Southern Counties’ regional Community Fund, which launched at the beginning of 2019. Each month the company donates £1,000 to a local charity or organisation working to improve the quality of life for those living in the division’s local area.
Lynnette St-Quintin, Sales & Marketing Director for Barratt Southern Counties, said: “We are proud to contribute to the important work that Eastbourne Eco Action Network does. As a responsible housebuilder, we are pleased to support local organisations who are working to protect local environments.”
Barratt Developments was the first housebuilder to announce new science-based targets for reducing carbon emissions with direct carbon emissions to be reduced by 29% by 2025 and indirect carbon emissions to be reduced by 11% by 2030. This is to be achieved through reducing diesel use, trialling new technology such as solar assisted generators, and building even more energy efficient homes.
Barratt Southern Counties is currently building a selection of three-bedroom homes in Eastbourne, where prices start from £347,995 for a semi-detached family home.
