Milestone reached at Barking Riverside development

Work on the landmark Barking Riverside development has reached a significant milestone with the launch of the latest phase of homes.

Bellway London started work in 2022 on phase four of its Fielders Quarter development at the scheme on the north side of the River Thames and will release the first homes for sale here on Saturday 17 June.

The scheme, named West Circus at Fielders Quarter, will bring 229 new properties to the area including 108 affordable homes.

It is part of Bellway’s plan to deliver approximately 1,000 homes within the wider Barking Riverside project, across the four phases at Fielders Quarter and at nearby Eastbrooke Village.

Head of Sales for Bellway London, Dominic Griffiths, said: “This is a key moment in the delivery of Barking Riverside as we start work on West Circus at Fielders Quarter and prepare to launch sales.

“Our work here is creating a ripple effect of economic benefits for the area. Jobs and training are being generated as a result of our involvement in Barking Riverside.”

Bellway London is creating employment for hundreds of people across Barking Riverside both directly and indirectly because of its work on Fielders Quarter and Eastbrooke Village.

It is also working closely with the local authority, Barking and Dagenham Council, to provide training opportunities and is supporting schools and communities across the borough through an ongoing outreach programme.

Barking Riverside is a major project that is planned to provide more than 10,000 homes along with commercial and leisure space, new schools, public open space, riverside walks and five miles of cycle superhighway.

A £40m Wellbeing Hub is set to be at the heart of the development, with a GP surgery, gym, and water park, while The Wilds Community Centre provides a range of activities, events, and classes for residents to enjoy and to bring the community together.

The scheme is transforming a 443-acre former industrial site that was once the location of the Barking Power Station, which was decommissioned in the 1980s.

The West Circus at Fielders Quarter portion of Bellway’s scheme will be a mix of 78 one-bedroom apartments, 30 two-bedroom apartments and 13 four-bedroom townhouses with space for shops and restaurants. The scheme will also include communal outdoor space, parking, and cycle storage.

The development is located two miles south-east of Barking town centre and within walking distance of the new Barking Riverside overground station and the Uber Boat service at Barking Riverside Pier, for easy access into central London.
