MILTON KEYNES SCHOOL CELEBRATES BUILDING BUDDIES TRIUMPH AT AWARDS CEREMONY
Marking the end of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Building Buddies Award, the staff and pupils of St Mary’s Wavendon C of E Primary in Wavendon have enjoyed a ceremonious trophy presentation to draw the academic year long project to a close.
The school’s pupils were recruited by the local homebuilder back in September to be part of the bespoke scheme and the pupils recently enjoyed an award ceremony to celebrate completing the assignment.
Split into four quarters, the pupils learned about the construction process in great detail as they took park in a range of challenges at the school, located close to Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ development, Eagles’ Rest.
The four tasks guided the pupils along the homebuilding procedures, covering planning and land, sales and marketing, technical and design and construction.
The children were visited by Georgie Lindsay, Team Leader at Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Eagles’ Rest development, who presented St Mary’s Wavendon with their coveted Building Buddies Award, in addition to individual trophies for the task winners – Alex, Eden, Sofia.
David Caswell, Year 6 Class Teacher at St Mary’s Wavendon C of E Primary, said: “The Building Buddies project has been a fantastic opportunity for the children in Year 6 to gain a greater understanding of town and development planning, marketing, house and garden design and construction; through applying their knowledge into real-life contexts, the children have begun to understand a range of careers which may interest them in the future. The children enjoyed this project immensely!”
Furthering the writing and artistic abilities of the pupils, the Building Buddies Award has enabled those taking part to name and promote their own development, whilst highlighting site safety and wildlife-friendly features considered at each Barratt and David Wilson Homes development.
Jason Hearn, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “We’re very proud of the children at St Mary’s Wavendon for their participation in our Building Buddies Award, and thank them for their fantastic entries.
“At Barratt and David Wilson Homes, we strive to work closely with the next generation of homebuilders and we hope to have encouraged the pupils at the school to consider a career in construction.”
