Musket Fire! At Stonham Barns Park …
It’s the First Show in a Series of History Re-Enactments

see how gun warfare developed over the years as history comes to life in Suffolk

Stonham Barns Park, one of Suffolk’s premier leisure, retail and holiday destinations, is staging the first of a series of four re-enactment shows on Saturday and Sunday 3-4 June for families and history lovers from all over the region.

Musket Fire, a two-day event which is brand new to the calendar will bring together all the drama of the battlefield with gun warfare tactics explained. Visitors will be able to hear the roar of the guns and smell the black powder in the air as the age of the gun will be demonstrated by re-enactors from all over the region.

Organisers will bring together the history of how gun warfare developed over the years as the showground will be transformed to tell the story of conflicts such as the War with Napoleon and the American Civil War. Those who attend can visit the camps of the British Army during the Napoleonic War and see how the people lived and fought for their country.

The story of the brutal American Civil War will also be told where brother fought brother and a nation’s fate was formed. There will be the chance to see the camps of the North and South armies to compare the two and see the similarities and differences that existed at the time.

Said Fraser Carson from Stonham Barns Park, ‘This is one of three brand new shows we are bringing to Stonham Barns Park. We have seen huge success with our other shows including History Alive and Saxon & Viking Festival and these extra shows are proof that the public has a keen interest in learning about history and experiencing it first-hand.’

‘The Musket Fire show will focus on how the black powder weapon of the Musket changed warfare. It will feature some of the most intense wars fought using such weapons. We will highlight the Napoleonic period which is represented by some wonderful re-enactment groups that depict the regiments from East Anglia itself; and demonstrate how they fought the French. Then we have the American Civil War with many groups from across the UK attending the event to bring the camps and battlefield tactics to life.’

‘This event will see the Stonham Barns Park Showground transformed allowing the public to step back into two amazing and fascinating periods of history. The opportunity to learn first-hand, to hold and feel the weight of the Muskets and many other historical items. As well as see; hear and smell them being used is unique. We encourage all to attend and advise those interested to pre-book tickets.’

A range of food and drink outlets will be available on the showground with outdoor and indoor seating. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads.
