New nursing degree programme launches at Brunel
People interested in a nursing career can now apply for one of three new degree courses starting at Brunel University London in September 2021.
Freshly approved by The Nursing and Midwifery Council, they will train registered nurses to specialise in mental health, adult health and child health.
It comes as the response to the pandemic appears to have influenced career and degree choices leading to a surge in applications to do nursing.
“Nurses have literally been on the frontline throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and as we start our path to recovery, we need professionally trained registered nurses more than ever,” said Dr Karen Harrison White, Brunel’s new division lead for nursing.
Brunel already offers nursing career paths in community and public health nursing; nurse prescribing and nursing associate.
“It’s been our ambition for a while to bring degree level nursing training to Brunel,” said Jayne Francis-Shama, Brunel’s Programme Lead for BSc Nursing.
“That’s why we’re so proud to now be preparing to train the new generation of registered nurses here in Hillingdon, to care for the health of the local community and economy.”
Students will learn in a new ‘skills and simulation suite’ in the Uxbridge campus’ Mary Seacole building. Guided by the nursing academic team, they will experience an equal balance of theory and practice in clinical placements.
School and college leavers, mature students and career changers who graduate from the three-year BSc Hons degrees will be eligible to register with the NMC.
The programme will first be open to national students, with plans already in the pipeline to welcome international students in future.
