New study finds the top 21 gambling movies of all time

Gambling is one of the most popular activities in the world and indeed, it is an industry that has increased in value considerably over the last few decades.

While there are those who steer clear of gambling in any form due to the risks that are attached, for many people it is often the case that it ranks as their favourite interest, particularly online gambling which has increased significantly over the last few years.

For those who do not engage in gambling though, there are other ways that they can still enjoy it without taking part. Especially those who enjoy watching movies and may have exhausted a lot of genres that are available.

A recent study has found the top 21 gambling movies of all time, which has pulled in data from a number of sources and calculated an overall percentage for each gambling-themed movie.

There are perhaps some interesting findings, especially for those who might know quite a lot of the gambling movies and might be surprised by some of the results and as such, you can see it here for a more in-depth look into the numbers.

Which movies may pique your curiosity?

In the results, you might find some that you may recognise or indeed have seen because some do not necessarily have gambling as the main theme. Let’s take a look at those that might spark your interest.

Casino Royale

Ranking in first place with 87 percent overall, this could definitely be one that you are familiar with. First and foremost a James Bond movie that has all of the typical 007 elements, the main plotline of this is centred around a high stakes poker game with serious possible implications.

Mr Lucky

A movie which came in second place with 86 percent, one of the biggest things that might capture your attention with this one, is its release date of 1943. When considering the competition on the list, this really highlights how popular it still is today, even among younger generations. Combining a lot of different elements, this can be classed more as somewhat of a ‘feel-good’ romantic comedy. Oh, and Cary Grant plays the lead.

The Hangover

This almost slapstick comedy comes in at 13th with 77.50 percent and even though it is predominantly set in Las Vegas, there are many other themes associated with it than just gambling. Featuring Bradley Cooper as the main protagonist, if you are looking for a light-hearted laugh, this might just be the one for you!

Ocean’s 11

Part of the acclaimed “Ocean’s” series of movies, starring Matt Damon, you are likely to have also heard of this. Based on the main character ‘Danny Ocean’ assembling 11 different people to conduct heists on some of the big casinos in Las Vegas, this is more of a suspense-filled thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. Achieving a respectable eighth place in the study with 80 percent this 2001 release is still clearly fondly remembered.
