Nosy Neighbours: A quarter of Brits admit to gossiping about their neighbours
With many of us likely to experience one or two nosy neighbours in our lifetimes, the property experts at GetAgent have revealed which nosy activities Brits most commonly admit to engaging in at home.
The top “nosy” activity that over half (51%) of homeowners admit to partaking in is watching out of the window at something a neighbour is doing, whether that’s spotting something suspicious, or even monitoring people coming and going from their home.
Following in second place is looking over a fence to see what is happening in a neighbour’s garden; a common thing homeowners who might be hearing lots of noise, or even arguments, to do – with over a third (37%) of Brits admitting to doing this.
Tied in third place, is gossiping and looking up your neighbours property online. Over a quarter (28%) of Brits say they’ve gossiped with a neighbour about another neighbour, getting the latest updates on the going-ons of the street. The same amount admitted to researching their neighbours’ homes online, whether it’s looking at their neighbours renovations on social media to get inspiration for their own home or taking a look at the property as it hits the market, to see what the interior looks like and how much their property is selling for.
Other interesting things Brits admit to doing include eavesdropping on their neighbours conversations (19%) and asking personal questions (15%), with one in 10 even admitting to looking through their neighbours windows.
