THE UK’s love for ginger is hotter than ever, with a new survey revealing that a whopping 84% of Brits would choose a drink if it contains ginger. From soft drinks and mixers to warming tea and health shots, ginger is proving to be the flavour of the moment in 2025.

New research from premium soft drinks and mixers brand, Fentimans, in celebration of its 120th anniversary, reveals that ginger beer is the nation’s favourite ginger drink, with 51% of Brits choosing it as their top pick. No longer just a nostalgic favourite, ginger beer is making a strong comeback as Fentimans – now the UK’s number one premium ginger beer – reports a 25% surge in supermarket ginger beer sales over the last two years.

Findings from the consumer research revealed that 62% of Brits choose ginger drinks for their bold flavour, while 57% are drawn to their perceived health benefits. It finds that men prefer ginger beer (62%) whilst women opt for ginger tea as their spicy sip of choice (41%), with its alleged health-boosting properties being the primary driver.

Regionally, Londoners are leading the trend, with 60% claiming they’d be very likely to opt for a ginger drink, with Yorkshire and The Humber and the West Midlands following closely behind. Ginger tea is the most widely consumed ginger drink in London, enjoyed by 66% of Londoners, with 69% consuming it for health reasons.

It’s no surprise that of those surveyed in the North East, the home of Fentimans, ginger beer was their ginger drink of choice, with 53% choosing this as their favourite.

Conversely, Northern Ireland is the least likely region to consume any ginger drinks (22.2%), closely followed by the North West (20.9%).

Millennials (35-44) are the nation’s biggest ginger fans, with 49% very likely to opt for a ginger tipple, compared to 32% of Gen-Z (18-24), who are the least likely. Instead, Gen-Z leads the way for ginger shot consumption (43%) whilst 55–64-year-olds favour ginger beer, with 72% choosing it for its bold taste. Consumers over 55 are most likely to drink ginger drinks for the feelings of nostalgia and tradition associated with the flavour, whilst Gen-Z and Millennials seek its perceived health benefits such as digestive support and energy.

Fentimans has been at the forefront of the trend since it first launched its ginger beer back in 1905. Jayne Andrews, Marketing Director at Fentimans, commented: “When Thomas Fentiman took a Ginger Beer recipe as security for a loan, he was on to something!’
The flavour is now more popular than ever before. For 120 years, we’ve been Botanical Brewing our flavour to give it the punchy, bold flavour we’re known for. After more than a century it’s incredible to see it is still loved by so many Brits today– with more demand than ever. We’re delighted that it remains our best seller today.

“As the UK’s number one premium ginger beer, we’re proud to be at the heart of its popularity surge and look forward to continuing to provide the nation with a beloved favourite for many years to come.”

Fentimans will be producing a limited edition 750ml Ginger Beer as part of its 120th celebrations which fans will be able to find in UK supermarkets nationwide in the late spring and summer.
