Paris Olympic Games inspire interest in homes with sports amenities

Paris will be the global epicentre of sporting prowess this summer, as the Olympic Games take place in the city. From 26th July to 11th August 2024, athletes will take place in 32 different sports, showcasing their talents to audiences around the world.

With sport playing a crucial role in fostering healthy and active lives, the Olympic Movement is committed to “promoting the value of sports participation for people of all ages and abilities.” That participation can take place around the globe, thanks to the wide range of sports facilities available.

In Spain, homeowners with leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España at La Cala Golf Resort have a wealth of sports facilities available to them. Buyers of properties at Solana Village, which is home to apartments and penthouses with fabulous golf views priced from €423,000 plus VAT, receive a La Cala Privilege Card. The card entitles homeowners to a range of benefits and discounts at the resort, where sports facilities include three championship courses, with golf lessons and coaching available, including an intensive two-day tuition programme. There’s also a gym, tennis court, squash court and three padel courts, plus various options for private tuition either individually or in pairs, providing plenty of opportunities to stay fit and healthy.

In neighbouring Portugal, sports facilities are also a key part of many resorts’ offering. The Algarve’s prestigious Vale do Lobo resort, owned and operated by Kronos Homes, boasts two stunning 18-hole golf courses, 12 tennis courts, six padel courts, Fitness Centre and multiple swimming pools. Coaches are on hand to help those looking to hone their skills, while property owners who join the resort’s Owners Club can enjoy discounts of up to 50% on tennis and 55% on golf.

At nearby Monte Santo, swimming is a big part of life at the resort, which is home to five outdoor swimming pools, a children’s pool and one indoor pool in the serene surroundings of the Alma Spa. Monte Santo also provides a gym, magnificent clubhouse and a multi-sports court. There’s a kids’ club, where holidaymakers aged 4-12 can play football and basketball, along with a range of other activities, while several local beaches provide the option to enjoy water sports including paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkelling.

One of the most exhilarating sports to watch at the Paris Olympics will be surfing, which made it onto the Olympic programme in 2020, for the Tokyo Games. The four-day 2024 event, held in Teahupo’o, Tahiti, will require surfers to perform a range of tricks and manoeuvres, with judges marking them on their speed, flow and power.

In Portugal, the country’s western coast is popular with surfers from around the world thanks to its massive Atlantic rollers. The area around the Algarve’s southwestern tip combines outstanding surf conditions with abundant sunshine, meaning resorts such as Salema Beach Village often boast a chilled out, surfer vibe. Salema Beach is also wonderfully family-friendly, with a large outdoor pool and two padel courts for players of all ages to enjoy.

As the Paris Olympic Games draw closer, all those who are keen to reap the health and social rewards of playing sport can do so at these superb facilities.
