Pubs Opening in England: HEINEKEN Release Seven Measures To Help Pubs Open Safely

With lockdown restrictions lifting, pubs across the country are preparing to re-open with heightened safety measures to make sure customers feel comfortable visiting their local once again.

HEINEKEN’s pub business, Star Pubs & Bars, is investing in a comprehensive package for its 2,500 pubs to support them in re-opening.

Following £21m in rent concessions, the pub company is now looking towards the future, with pubs in England due to re-open on the 4 July.

With safety and hygiene as top priorities, pubs are being provided with guidance and materials for everything from one-way systems, hand sanitiser stations, new disposable menus and even guidance on how to pour the perfect pint.

The brewer and pub owner has suggested a number of measures to ensure locals enjoy the return as safely as possible. These include the following:

  • Download the Swifty app for contactless payment and ordering from your table to avoid handling cash or change
  • If you don’t have a Smartphone, then the banks have upped the contact payment levels to £45 and this can be made at the bar – to avoid handling cash and pressing the buttons on the device
  • Social distancing signs will encourage people to maintain the 1m distance
  • Extra hand sanitiser stations across the premises
  • Single use paper menus made to avoiding multiple customers handling single menus
  • Frequent and thorough surface cleaning
  • The perfect pint pour so no one touches the top two third of your glass except you

Community pub, the Mount Pleasant in Wombourne near Wolverhampton, is just one of the thousands of pubs that are preparing to welcome back locals.  Manager, Nicky Williams has her customers’ safety at the forefront of her re-opening plans and is excited to get trading again.

From the moment customers step through the door of her pub the Mount Pleasant in Wombourne, there will be hand sanitiser stations, along with clear signs showing a one-way system, distancing rules and surfaces will be cleaned frequently.

Nicky says: “We’ve done everything in our power to make everybody safe.  It will still be the same atmosphere, just a few different measures that we’ve put in place for all our safety.  I really can’t wait to open!”

Some pubs are also putting Perspex screens up so that people can enjoy a pint and a bite to eat with close friends and family.

Lawson Mountstevens, managing director of HEINEKEN’s pub business says: “This is a critical time for our nation’s pubs. In this period of uncertainty, we want to make it as easy as possible for our licensees to reopen their pubs safely as people get set to visit their local again. This support package will help build the public’s confidence in pubs as a safe and responsible place to meet friends and enjoy a pint and bite to eat.  We want to see all pubs open and trading and showcase the vital role they play in their communities.”
