SINKA return with pummeling surpise single – ‘Bitter’
Watford’s hard-hitting alt-rock trio, SINKA have dropped an unprecedented new single ‘Bitter’ on all streaming platforms. This thunderous new track was written, recorded and produced by the band during the UK’s COVID-19 lockdown, and hints to a bountiful new year of music in 2021.
The track cuts no corners – layering seismic riffs with intricately-laced rhythms which epitomizes the SINKA sound; further enforced by the elastic vocals of frontman and songwriter, Shaun Sewell-Sears. Beneath the cascade of punching drum and bass, courtesy of Jack Wright and Matt Smith respectively, lies the gentle prongs of ambient harmonic textures and virtuous keys that take the track to new heights.
As for the inspirations behind the song, Shaun said “It came to me near the beginning of the COVID pandemic, right when the lockdown had been placed. I felt so anxious at that moment, because I knew that the situation was getting serious and nobody could predict what would happen next. It was like the opening of an apocalyptic horror movie.”
“I’m lucky in that I live with my girlfriend and we kept each other sane for the most part, but even that didn’t last. With all the isolation every little argument about miniscule stuff would make me question whether she was getting bored of me, or that she didn’t care anymore, and really it was just me being paranoid – humans confined to rooms being human. And so that feeling was how the song manifested – it’s an expression of all my anxiety, paranoia and self-doubt.”
Despite its obvious challenges the band refused to let lockdown restrict their creativity, in fact, it appears to have had entirely the opposite effect. Following the mid-April release of ‘F.W.Y.K’, the bands’ debut EP, the trio have swung right back into action; releasing the new single as well as working on more new music from the shadows. With a newly-built personal studio to keep the trio busy, they are intent on pulling together more new music and working up a super-tight set to bring to the live music scene in 2021.
