SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR TO HOST CAMP BESTIVAL DORSET WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT THIS SUMMER

the UK’s favourite family festival, has today announced that the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title attempt for the Largest Disco Dance will be hosted by the Kitchen Disco Queen, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Camp Bestival curator’s Rob and Josie da Bank.

Tying in with this year’s Desert Island Disco theme at Camp Bestival Dorset and taking place on Saturday 30 July, the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt will bring unprecedented excitement and the best disco moves to Lulworth Castle.

Breaking world records is no mean feat and in true Camp Bestival style the festival is determined to give as many Camp Bestival go-ers as possible the chance to become record breakers!

More than 324 people will be needed to break the current GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title. Not only will families become ACTUAL record breakers, but the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt will also raise much needed funds for Camp Bestival’s official charity partner, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. Aspiring record breakers are encouraged to sign-up as soon as possible – only a handful of tickets are left.

Teased on the Camp Bestival social channels, the dance is led by Diverse City founder and disco champion, Claire Hodgson MBE, and choreographed by fellow disco champion and brother, Tom Hodgson. Claire was awarded an MBE in 2016 for services to inclusion in the Performing Arts and continues to be an inspiration to many with her dedication to all things disco.

On the actual record break attempt day (Saturday 30 July), glistening pop anthem legend Sophie Ellis-Bextor will get the *potential* record breakers going and host the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt for the Largest Disco Dance. With her disco efforts during lockdown with Sophie’s Kitchen Discos, it only felt right for everybody’s favourite pop princess to be there for the Camp Bestival history books.

Speaking on hosting Camp Bestival Dorset’s GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt, Sophie Ellis-Bextor said: “From my own Kitchen Disco to a fully-fledged all-sequin disco extravaganza in the glorious grounds of Lulworth Castle, I am so thrilled to be hosting Camp Bestival’s official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt for the Largest Disco Dance on Saturday 30 July. The festival is right around the corner, and I can’t wait to be back in the fields, only this time with added disco sparkle – see you soon!”

Speaking on Camp Bestival Dorset’s GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt, Camp Bestival curator Rob da Bank said: “We have been blown away by the reaction to our GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS attempt for the Largest Disco Dance – the fact we’ve nearly sold out is a testament to our loyal fanbase. Camp Bestival Dorset’s GUINNESS WORLD RECORD attempt for the World’s Largest Disco Dance is a bold move, but in true Camp Bestival style, it’s just another wild and out there activity for the whole family to get involved in over the weekend. The dance itself is going to be a tonne of fun and if it all goes to plan, families can take home the absolutely phenomenal fete of being a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS breaker. Not to mention, all proceeds from the attempt will go to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, which we’re incredibly proud of. Everyone, get your dancing shoes on, because we’re all heading to the dancefloor – roll on July!”

Also speaking on Camp Bestival Dorset’s GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt, Diverse City founder, Claire Hodgson MBE said: “Disco was central to my childhood and teen years and it very much occupies a massive part of my life. It brought me glamour and liberation. I wear sequins everyday as much as possible and disco has provided a soundtrack to many of my best moments. I am very excited about the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS attempt for the World’s Largest Disco Dance. It is a dream moment for me and I am so glad to be doing the dance with an amazing community of people, alongside my sister, Kim, too, who have signed up to do the same. The choreography is great – a bit of practice will enable everyone to pick it up and take part. It has been created to include everyone.”

The Largest Disco Dance will encourage everyone and anyone to take part, with all abilities welcome. The festival jamboree will also raise money for Camp Bestival’s official charity partner, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, which inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.
