St John Ambulance Cymru Clinical Director is crowned a Coronation Champion
As around 12.3 million people settled in front of their TVs to watch Sunday evening’s Coronation Concert live from Windsor Castle our Clinical Director David Monk was lucky enough to be in Windsor to enjoy the atmosphere in person, in recognition of being named one of just 500 Coronation Champions chosen from across the UK.
In honour of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s service to the country, the Royal Voluntary Service launched the Coronation Champions Awards for volunteers. The awards celebrate the contribution volunteers across the country make to their communities.
Catherine Johnstone CBE, Chief Executive of Royal Voluntary Service said: “We were completely blown away by the response to the Community Champions Awards and the huge volume of amazing nominees put forward. Our judges had a tough job selecting just 500 Champions from an array of thousands of inspirational individuals, who all deserve to be recognised and commended. “
“Each of our Coronation Champions displayed a commitment and contribution that far exceeds any expectation and we’re overjoyed to honour and thank them during this exciting point in history.”
David, a paramedic by profession, has been volunteering for over 22 years. In recognition of his being chosen as a Coronation Champion he was awarded with a certificate and pin badge, which he wore with pride at the star studded concert in Windsor.
He said, “It still feels surreal to have attended the Coronation Concert as a Coronation Champion. It’s humbling to have been chosen as one of 500 volunteers across the UK.
The event itself was incredible and a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The music sounded amazing live and seeing the light displays projected onto Windsor castle combined with the incredible drone show celebrating HM King Charles III love for the natural world really complemented the performances.
We were so lucky to have reserved seating with a great view. Everyone in attendance was in great spirits and all there to celebrate the coronation of our new King and Queen. ”
