Strike action delivers pay boost for West London parking attendants.

Strike ends in Ealing and Brent after Unite negotiated a 17% pay deal in Ealing and 19% for workers in Brent.

But strike action continues in Hounslow because Serco and council bosses continue to drag their heels.

Parking Attendants and CCTV camera operators across Brent and Ealing have secured vastly improved pay deals worth up to 19.7% following strike action.

Hounslow Borough Council now stands alone and strike action will continue in the borough until 31st January unless bosses deliver a fair pay deal.

Civil enforcement officers and CCTV operators began a two week strike on Wednesday 18 January. The workers are employed by Serco, which provides parking services to the three London boroughs. The giant outsourcing company’s latest profits were £303.9 million.

Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham said: “It was clear from the start that Serco could pay workers more money in Ealing and Brent. It took strike action to bring the employer to the negotiating table to agree fair pay.

“What remains outstanding is that Serco and council bosses in Hounslow are still refusing address the scandal of low pay. For this reason, strike action will continue and these essential workers have Unite‘s complete support.

The civil enforcement officers and CCTV operators in Ealing will get 9% back dated to April 2022 or 11.94% for new starters on lower rates of pay. The workers will get a further 8% pay increase from April this year (2023). Workers also secured extra annual leave entitlement.

In Brent workers will get a total pay rise of 10.7% backdated to April 2022 and a further 9% from April this year.

Unite acting national officer, Clare Keogh said: “Council workers in Hounslow continue to face real financial hardship. For this reason their strike is continuing. If the money can be found in Brent and Ealing then Hounslow must come out of the cold and pay workers a decent rate.”
