Which cities have been learning a new language in lockdown?

Savoo also carried out a study to see which hobbies Brits have picked up during lockdown, with learning a new language featuring in a number of different cities.

According to PhDr. Ivana Poku: “Hobbies have a positive impact on your mental and physical health, they give your breaks a purpose, relieve stress, and give you a sense of happiness regardless of your age.

“Thanks to hobbies you can explore yourself and discover hidden skills that go hand in hand with increased confidence and energy levels. Exploring new skills is beneficial, especially in isolation, when we feel stuck and cannot do some of the things we used to do.”

The UK has seen a rise in interest in studying a foreign language with search results increasing by 123% over lockdown. In general, learning a new language was searched for the most across Liverpool, Bristol, Edinburgh and London (400%, 300%, 300% and 182% increase in Google searches respectively).

PhDr. Ivana Poku states “There are many benefits to learning a new language such as improving your memory, multitasking and communication skills. Not only that but they can give you a boost in happiness and confidence “
