Sustrans announces appointment of London Director

Sustrans, the UK’s leading active travel charity, has announced the appointment of Oli Ivens to the role of London Director. Oli has been in post since August 22nd.

Oli brings a wealth of experience to the role, having most recently held the position of Head of Consulting at sustainable transport consultancy
MP Smarter Travel, where he
spent six years building expertise in low-emission freight, school travel and air quality education. Most notably, Oli led the delivery of the UK’s first Bikes for Business project, working to instigate a mainstreaming of the use of cargo bikes across London.

Oli’s appointment at Sustrans arrives at a time when the charity seeks to maximise our impact in London by delivering success in making it easier for people to walk, wheel or cycle across the capital and strengthen the London team’s mission to drive the change
needed for the UK to meet its net zero targets and reduce transport emissions.

Oli Ivens said on his appointment:

“I’m looking forward to working closely with partner organisations, local authorities, Transport for London and the Greater London Authority to deliver high-quality projects that give people a choice in how they travel. Integrating active travel – whether people
choose walking, wheeling or cycling – with London’s extensive public transport network, is an opportunity our team is keen to explore.

“I am driven by a desire to support the uptake of more sustainable travel at the largest possible scale. As a Londoner who grew up in Belgium, I built a love for cycling, both for utility trips and for sport. For me, active travel is freedom, and that belief
is driving my work to unlock this feeling for others.”
