The best place to watch the World Cup at every London tube stop
The first ever winter FIFA World Cup officially kicks off in Qatar on 20th November and the action will run until the final on the 18th of December – just a week before Christmas.
But due to the cost of travel and limited ticket availability, thousands of fans will be packing into local pubs, clubs, and bars in the Capital to cheer on the Three Lions or their national team.
The birthplace of the FA and home to the game for centuries, London has a rich football heritage. But with so many venues to choose from, residents and tourists alike might find it tricky to pick the best spot or find somewhere with room.
To help, researchers at luggage storage network, Stasher, have done the hard work for you, finding and mapping the best pub or bar to watch the World Cup at over 180 London tube stations* – all within walking distance.
World Cup matches will be shown in the UK throughout November and December on two free-to-air channels – the BBC and ITV. This means more pubs and bars can get in on the action too and show the games for customers.
Many venues across the Capital are running special ticketed events or pop-ups to give fans the best experience, so it’s advised to check before turning up and book early to avoid disappointment.
The researchers have also found the highest-rated pubs and bars showing live football across the London Underground network, with an impressive average Google review score of 4.7/5. These are:
· Two Tribes Brewery & Campfire Taproom, near Caledonian Road Underground Station on the Piccadilly Line
· All Bar One Waterloo, near Waterloo Underground Station accessible via the Jubilee, Bakerloo, Northern and Waterloo & City Lines
· Prince of Wales Townhouse, near Ravenscourt Park Underground Station on the District Line.
The hospitality sector has been hammered in recent years by several factors, including closures during Covid lockdowns, supply issues, labour shortages, energy price rises, wage inflation, and fragile consumer confidence.
And commentators have predicted we could lose thousands more pubs if the government doesn’t step in with a Covid-style bailout.
It is hoped that the tournament will give the hospitality sector a much-needed boost this winter, encouraging football fans to get out and enjoy the games at venues across the city.
