The British Games To Make The Most Of This Summer
British summertime is almost upon us and there’s a real sense of optimism as the theatres, pubs, and sports stadiums open up their doors once again, ready and waiting to welcome what could be the best summer in years.
The summer always throws up plenty of activities that are traditionally British, from days by the seaside to strolls in the countryside and afternoons watching the cricket. Many of us will be looking to make the most of the summer, but what are the typically British activites you can now get out and enjoy?
Bingo
Bingo has really taken over the world in the last 12 months in its online form, with variants such as variants such as online slingo games taking the game to the next level. And while many of us will continue to play online, bingo halls across the country will also be open so you can jump up and shout “house!” for real.
It’s a staple of the British staycation and seaside resorts across the nation will be encouraging players to get their dabbers at the ready. So don’t miss out.
Cricket
Village cricket is up and running, and professional county clubs are welcoming fans through their gates, and whether whether you’re simply wanting to have a knock arond with friends or want to enjoy an afternoon of watching, the summer of 2021 is going to be a good one.
India and New Zealand visit the country and will play a series of Test matches and ODIs, in the domestic game there’s also the launch of The Hundred, a brand new competition which looks set to take the English game by storm.
Bowls
You’ll find lawn bowls greens in many parks, and while you’ll generally need to be a member to play on those, there’s nothing stopping you from enjoying this great British pastime on any blade of grass, whether in your back garden or a park.
You can pick up sets relatively cheaply in supermarkets and enjoy a game families and friends have been enjoying for generations.
Tennis
Wimbledon fever will come twice as hard this year following the 2020 postponement and for a fortnight Brits will be once again hooked on tennis. It’s the perfect sport for warm and dry weather and you’ll find plenty of public tennis courts as well as private clubs to enjoy.
What’s more, you’ll find plenty of nets on Amazon to suit all shapes of garden. You never know, you might be a Roger or Serena in the making.
