The city where you’re most likely to have an accident revealed!

The UK might be one of the safest places to live and work in the world, but that doesn’t mean that residents have the luck to not be accident-prone.

Using data gathered by The Office of National Statistics (ONS) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE), The Compensation Experts have broken down the top 10 most accident-prone cities in the UK based on total road and workplace accidents per capita.

Over the past two years, it can seem like it has been incredibly quiet due to the covid-19 pandemic and various lockdowns, but sometimes, accidents are totally unavoidable. Even in 2020, at least 400,000 people suffered an injury due to a workplace accident1.

As well as this, the top three most common accident types in the UK are Slips, trips and falls, manual handing injuries and being stuck by a moving object1.

The UK’s top 10 most accident-prone cities are:

Kingston upon hill in the most accident-prone UK city

There were 603 reported-road traffic accidents and 207 workplace accidents reported last year, that makes for a total accident count of 910. Hull was crowned the UK’s city of culture back in 2017 now it’s been crowned the top UK city for accidents, it seems some work needs to be done to make Hull a safer destination.

Peterborough follows as the 2nd top accident prone city, one of the more populous commuter cities in the UK, perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Peterborough takes second spot. While a marked step down from the number of accidents seen in Hull, its Peterborough’s lower population that increases its accidents per capital to 0.0028.

Portsmouth comes in 3rd spot, being a port town, Portsmouth sees a lot of traffic on a daily basis, but even the extensive safety protocols taking place to avoid accidents in this setting couldn’t stop Portsmouth from seeing 427 road traffic accidents and 142 workplace accidents, giving Portsmouth an accident per capita rate of 0.0027.

Commenting on the findings, spokesperson at The Compensation Experts, says “With more accidents happening in cities up and down the country each year, it’s more important than ever to ensure you’re covered should the worst happen but we urge Britons to stay safe and be vigilant when out and about.
