The Great British Hook-up: Surge in late night hotel bookings as casual sex is back
Casual sex is back on the cards for millions of adults in England this week for the first time in 2021 thanks to big changes to lockdown rules. And it seems drunken revellers are wasting no time in taking advantage of this relaxation to get lucky.
Analysis by GoodLuckMate reveals Google search popularity for phrases including “late night hotel”, “last minute hotel” and “late check in hotel” have surged by 100 percent after midnight every night since May 17th.
Casual hook-ups have effectively been banned by Boris for months, with indoor mixing limited to people within the same household.
But yesterday marked the return of indoor socialising in the country’s pubs, bars and restaurants between households and last night, overnight hotel stays with others were legal once again…even with strangers.
The continued closure of nightclubs until June 21st doesn’t seem to be holding people back either. Being single in lockdown has clearly left a lot of pent-up demand.
At times during lockdown, meet-ups have been restricted to only two people exercising together, dampening the dating scene.
May 17th, was unofficially named National Affair Day, marking the start of when lovers could resume their illicit relationships after months apart. And hotel rooms are a popular choice.
Unfortunately, adults in the rest of the UK will have to wait a little longer for a passionate brief encounter.
In Wales, while all accommodation is now open, household mixing is still banned outside of exclusive bubbles. These rules may change on 7th June, but this is yet to be confirmed by the Welsh Government.
You still can’t share a hotel room with someone you don’t live or bubble with in mainland Scotland or Northern Ireland either. In Northern Ireland this may change on 24th May, and in Scotland on 7th June.
