The Luna Cinema and Thorpe Park Team Up for The Ultimate Spooky Drive-In Experience

The Luna Cinema, the UK’s leading outdoor cinema company, is extending its hugely successful 2020 drive in season to launch ‘The Ultimate Spooky Drive In Experience’ – to show the best scary movies at an amazing location for Halloween.

Following the incredible success of The Luna Drive-In Cinema which launched this summer in response to the global pandemic, film fans across the country have been able to safely enjoy the return to the big screen and are in for a (trick or) treat this Autumn.

The Luna Drive-In Cinema for Halloween will be at Thorpe Park in Surrey, coinciding with the theme park’s hugely popular annual Fright Nights.

The programme includes family-friendly early evening classics such as Hocus Pocus, Ghostbusters and The Addams Family. There will also be late night screenings of scarier cult classics, such as Halloween, The Shining, The Exorcist, Blair Witch Project, Final Destination, Scream and Silence of the Lambs along with more recent horror releases such as IT: Chapter 1, The Purge, Hereditary and Get Out.

Audiences are also encouraged to attend in fancy dress and post their selfies to be in with a chance to win a special prize each night.

With socially-distanced parking, remote order and delivery of Halloween-themed food and drink and state-of-the-art sound and visuals, including Luna’s brand-new in car wireless sound solution, it promises to be the ultimate drive-in cinema experience.

Bringing drive-in into the 21st century, the Luna team have developed a bespoke sound system, the only one of its kind in the UK, that means each car has its own personal wireless speaker so viewers can hear the film in amazing cinematic quality digital sound, without any distractions. This technology will mean there will be no need to have the car radio running and risk draining the battery. Traditional ticket scanning has been done away with, but instead licence plate recognition cameras record your arrival and permit entry. There will also be a fantastic selection of food and drink items available either as a pre-order with tickets, or ordered from the car on the night using a smart phone, with staff speedily delivering orders on scooters!

George Wood, founder of The Luna Cinema, said: “We have been thrilled with the response to the launch of The Luna Drive-In Cinema that we were fortunate to be able to put on at a time when cinemas and outdoor events had to close. I worried that it would lack the socialble, communal quality of open-air screenings that we’ve been putting on for the last twelve years but the response has been incredible – there’s still such a great collective feeling and you can still hear people singing and laughing in their cars. It made complete sense to extend into the Halloween season and put on these events featuring both classic and modern-day horrors. We’re thrilled to be bringing The Luna Drive-In to Thorpe Park for the first time as it’s synonymous with Halloween for so many of us. We’ve managed to make every aspect of the event fully compliant with social distancing regulations, from the way the tickets are scanned through to the provision of food and drink. Audiences can attend our drive in screenings with confidence… though we can’t guarantee you won’t be spooked by some of the extra elements we have planned!”
