The Running MP!
Leader of the Climate Party will Run to Parliament while Running for Parliament (literally)
Ed Gemmell, leader of the Climate Party and the Climate Party’s candidate will join 100 other runners on the last stage of the Running Out of Time Relay from Potters Field Park to the Houses of Parliament – a distance of 4.2 Km. Ed may even join the 20 runners on the previous stage from the Royal Observatory to Potters Field Park – a distance of 7.3 Km.
That is all if Ed gets free from running for Parliament (literally) around the Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency where he will be canvassing at speed earlier in the day.
Pulling all the stops out to win the seat and gain as many votes as possible in the by-election, Ed has been out pounding the streets at pace for many days now. He has experience of success with this strategy after running throughout his campaign to gain a Buckinghamshire council seat in 2021.
“Running the street and campaigning is a wonderful way to meet people. I know some of them may think I’m crazy but they often comment on the commitment.”
About his interactions with voters while running Ed says “Sometimes it’s a little difficult to launch into the election pitch if I am still gasping for breath but I recover quickly. It is a great way to meet people. People in Uxbridge and South Ruislip have been receptive to the message coming from the Climate Party of the urgent need for speed in both addressing the climate crisis and leading the new industrial revolution that is connected with it by targeting 2030 as the date for carbon neutrality.”
Ed a councillor in nearby Buckinghamshire is running to replace ex-prime minister Boris Johnson who resigned recently from Parliament.
The Climate Party wishes to show strong climate leadership and ensure Britain benefits from the massive commercial and financial opportunities of the race to zero. The Climate Party believes Britain should lead the World with a 2030 target for carbon neutrality thus ensuring British prosperity in the 2030s, improved energy and food security and eradication of the cost of living crisis.
Ed also ran in a previous stage of the Running Out of Time Relay last Saturday running 12 Km in the Buckinghamshire countryside.
About The Climate Party
The Climate Party is the only single issue party in the UK totally focussed on climate. We’re all about tackling climate change while ensuring Britain and British people benefit from the huge commercial opportunity. We’re here to make sure the big political parties don’t hold Britain back with weak climate targets leaving us at the back of the queue. We believe in Britain leading the new climate industrial revolution, leading the world in sustainability.
Ed Gemmell
Ex army officer, city lawyer, unitary councillor and entrepreneur, Ed has been the single father of 2 boys for over 12 years. Ed experienced a real life road to Damascus moment in late June 2019 when he saw his children in a dream as adults returning from fighting for drinking water in Europe – he has worked exclusively on trying to reverse climate change since that moment of ecological conversion.
Running Out of Time Relay
The Running out of time relay covers 2661 miles from Ben Nevis to Big Ben. It takes place over 366 stages of running, biking or walking covering 30 counties. The relay seeks to raise awareness of the desperately slow speed of action in the UK
