THE SHARD LIGHTS UP TO REFLECT THANKS OF A NATION TO THE NHS THIS CHRISTMAS
The Shard’s annual seasonal display – Shard Lights – will return on Thursday 26th November. The event will see the top 20 storeys of Western Europe’s tallest building lit up with a display specially designed to show gratitude to all NHS staff and key workers who have worked tirelessly to keep the British public safe during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
This follows the building’s participation in the #LightItBlue campaign in March, which saw iconic buildings around the country turn their lights blue in support of the NHS and key workers. The Shard spire lights have remained blue ever since in a consistent show of support, including a special dynamic display on 4th and 5th July to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
Shard Lights 2020 will begin on the evening of 26th of November and will reflect two different themes over the following weeks. The first theme will be visible for just under a month, with the second starting in mid-December. Both will include coded messages to London and lead up to a grand finale on New Year’s Eve.
Real Estate Management (UK) Limited (“REM”), asset manager for The Shard, has once again collaborated with renowned lighting designer, Woodroffe Bassett Design, to create the installation.
Made up of 575 LED lights and fixtures across 20-storeys, from 800ft to 1,016ft, Shard Lights is the highest light show in Western Europe. Given their height and location, it is estimated the lights are the most viewed seasonal display in the UK each year. Many of the 8 million people living across the capital will catch a glimpse of them either from their homes or whilst they are on the move.
