Theme park experts share 4 hacks to beat the heat at Thorpe Park

With the Met Office confirming June was the hottest on record for the UK, it’s clear we could be in for a scorcher of a summer. But, if there’s one thing that we aren’t letting dampen the magic of summer trips to the theme parks this summer, it’s the heat.

With Google searches for ‘family days out’ soaring by 230% in the past month1, it looks like plenty of us are planning our itineraries for a summer full of family fun.

For many of us, that means a trip to the theme park, which is why the theme park experts at AttractionTickets.com have shared their hot-day hacks with you so that you can relish every moment…

Come equipped with a reusable water bottle
Theme park or not, it’s vital you stay hydrated when you’re spending long days in the heat. Come equipped with an insulated, reusable water bottle that you can keep topped up at the water bottle refilling stations.

On-the-go cooling essentials
Take preparation one step further, and bring a pocket fan on your trip. If you don’t want to miss out on even a moment in the sun, you wouldn’t be the first to pack a hand-held electric fan.

Another favourite amongst seasoned theme park goers is the refillable spray bottle for bottomless cooling mist – your saving grace in those longer queues. Top it up at the water refilling stations and keep cool on-the-go all day long.

Ride the flumes during the midday sun
Plan a trip to the water based and flume rides during those mid-day and early afternoon hours when the sun is at its hottest – luckily these kinds of rides feature across most of the major UK theme parks. Just remember to make sure to reapply sun cream afterwards to avoid getting burnt.

If you’re new to water based rides, one thing is certain, you won’t stay dry! Cool off on rides like Ramese’s Revenge at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, drench yourself on the Tidal Wave ride at THORPE PARK Resort or the Congo River Rapids at Alton Towers Resort.

Know the shade spots for cooling off between rides
It can pay to be aware of the many shady spots where you can retreat to if you’re in need of a little respite from the sun. Luckily you’ll find lots of dedicated areas for this across the parks.

Visit the indoor exhibitions at Sharkbait Reef by Sea Life at Alton Towers, or grab an ice-cream for a mid-afternoon pick me up whilst you seek out some leafy shade which is plentiful at THORPE PARK Resort.
