THIS is what the spooky MONSTER under our beds look like, according to kids
As the dark nights draw in closer and Halloween puts ghosts and gools on the brain, new research shows how many of us are still afraid of the dark, and what the monster under our beds look like.
The research by luxury bedroom retailer The French Bedroom Company has delved into the imagination of children to find out what the monster under our beds really look like.
As well as this, they polled adults to find out just how many of us are still afraid of the dark, and whether we still leave a light on for peace of mind that the coast is clear.
Results of the 1,058 surveyed show that many of us still have trouble sleeping at night with 40% afraid of the dark and a quarter leaving a light on at night when they go to sleep.
Of those polled, 60% admit they have felt sometimes that there could be something hiding in the dark when they sleep at night and 35% think this could be a monster under the bed.
To reveal what this monster looks like, the bedroom experts asked 14 children to draw what the monster looks like– and results show that they include teeth, horns, multi coloured fur and multiple eyes in some cases. Common stances include arms above their head, often holding some sort of baton or stick. Although perceived as scary, the drawings show the monsters looking quite friendly and often with beaming smiles.
When it comes to helping those who are frightened of what lurks in our rooms at night, psychologists advise that opening dialogue with your children can help identify who and what they are scared of. In terms of monsters, some recommend making a ‘monster fighting spray’ to spray around a child’s room before they sleep*.
Georgia Metcalfe, co-founder and creative director at The French Bedroom Company commented: “It has been a delight to see the creations of monster’s under the bed – often deemed a scary and sleep depriving subject, it’s clear that a lot of these creatures look quite friendly and perhaps a friend for the children to play with.”
