Total Fitness Announces Recruitment Drive To Develop Professionals Across The Fitness Industry

LEADING health club brand, Total Fitness, is recruiting for a series of fitness, swim and management roles across its 15 clubs in the North of England and Wales.

Total Fitness has set out to enhance the skillset and experience of professionals at all stages of their career, from newcomers who have had a career change and hope to transition to the health and fitness industry, to experienced staff looking to further their progression.

With job vacancies spanning across the entire business, including fitness and swim instructors, personal trainers, front of house staff, lifeguards, and roles in management, the health club brand is committed to helping all staff members achieve more than they ever thought possible.

This follows the announcement that Total Fitness has launched new baby and toddler swimming lessons which have already had interest from experienced Baby Swim Coaches, Poolside Experience Managers and Lifeguards, and is an exciting new area of focus for the business.

Total Fitness is dedicated to putting people first and makes a promise to their team that “more is possible”, whatever that means to them – whether that is moving up the career ladder, delivering their first spin class, or making incredible connections in the workplace.

The health club brand prides itself on being a place with contagious courage that makes people believe they can do more and be better and is committed to showcasing exactly what is possible for industry professionals.

Total Fitness recently won the Next Generation Award for their Elevate programme at the UK Company Culture Awards. This is an internal leadership programme which has been designed to promote staff from within the business and support their career development, proving the health club brand’s commitment to helping professionals in the industry achieve more.

With a strong senior leadership team at the helm, promoting a culture of listening, support and tenacity within the business, Total Fitness champions staff members at every level and is committed to helping them unlock their full potential.

Sophie Lawler, CEO at Total Fitness, comments: “2023 is an exciting year for Total Fitness as we emerge beyond the impact of the pandemic and the tumult of some interesting challenges for all businesses. We’re growing consistently, we’re looking ahead with confidence and we’re expanding our team so that we can make even more possible for our business.

“I joined the business almost five years ago and we’ve worked hard since then to transform the business through culture, purpose, values and behaviours. Our leadership and coaching philosophies have been the pillars of what’s been an exceptional journey, and as a result of our shared responsibility in these areas Total Fitness is a special place to be each day.

“The promise that we make to our team members is that more is possible. We do our best to liberate every employee from any challenges which might be holding them back as we commit to making this journey together. While we’re really honest about how hard our work can be, we’re also honest that we’ll have fun along the way. It’s a quid pro-quo.

“It’s a great time to join our business as we continue to challenge our thinking and champion the needs of our members. We’re turning our attention to our amazing poolside facilities this year, areas that are traditionally devoid of experience beyond the swimming pools themselves, and rethinking what it is to deliver differentiated poolside products the Total Fitness way. We’re starting with our new baby and toddler swim offering so for those with an interest in fitness in the water, it’s an even more exciting time to join us.

“I started my career in the fitness sector in 2001 at Total Fitness in Walkden as a sales consultant, and after a long career beyond Total Fitness, returned in 2018. I have loved my career to date, most specifically my CEO role at Total Fitness – I’m proud of everything we have managed to create and achieve together and have great admiration for the teams I serve here.

“For anyone considering a career in health and fitness I’d say it’s not for the faint hearted – it takes persistence and tenacity – but it’s purposeful and it’s fun. And beyond that I’d say to anyone pursuing career progression that it’s important to know yourself – to really understand what makes you brilliant (and why) and what holds you back (and why). Having the courage to speak openly about both, and the humility to share the challenges and the successes of what you achieve. And finally, choosing the right environment and culture (not job) is key to growth, something the team at Total Fitness provide, for those who want it.”

Jack, Facilities Team at Total Fitness Wakefield, comments: “Everything that I do now in my role, I never thought I’d get the opportunity to do. I didn’t expect to develop as I have done and would never have thought I’d be sat where I am now with the new skills I’ve learnt. I could only dream of running pool plant rooms when I first started and now it’s like second nature and is one of the most enjoyable parts of the job.”

Mustansar, Fitness Team at Total FitnessBolton, comments: “I’m fairly new to the business and have already learned how to organise and deliver the boot camp classes which was a new experience for me. I also got the opportunity to participate in video filming to create digital content and the experience was great. Both boot camp and video filming boosted my confidence whilst giving me the opportunity to try new things.”
