Later this year, Mark McCausland, also known as McKowski, will release his original soundtrack for ‘The Spin’, a film based on the Omagh musician’s own semi-autobiographical story.

A new music-based comedy road movie set in Ireland is currently on a roll on the film festival circuit. Picking up awards for Best Feature Film in Dublin, Omaha, and Istanbul, ‘The Spin’ was also nominated for an award at the Liverpool Indie Awards over the weekend.

‘The Spin’ stars Owen Colgan (‘Hardy Bucks’), Brenock O’Connor (‘Game Of Thrones’) and Tara Lynn O’Neill (‘Derry Girls’) and is centred around two down-on-their-luck buddies who own a record store in Omagh, in the north of Ireland. In order to save their failing business, they hit the road to retrieve a priceless record, and then the adventure begins.

The movie is based on a semi-autobiographical story written by Mark McCausland (formerly of Liverpool-based bands The Basement and The Lost Brothers). Mark also composed the musical score, which features contributions from artists such as Arizona’s desert rocker Howe Gelb, Jolie Holland, and Steve Wickham of The Waterboys.

The soundtrack is set to be released by Deltasonic Records later in the year, a new collaboration with Mark McCausland and Ann Heston (MD Deltasonic). “I’m so happy to be involved in this wonderful project,” shared Heston, “releasing the brilliant soundtrack on Deltasonic and also as assistant producer on the film. Can’t wait for it to be out there.”

‘The Spin’ has been described as an “uplifting breath of fresh air”, while Film Ireland wrote, “‘The Spin’ has the intimate comedic charm of the American record-store indie classic ‘High Fidelity’ (2000) and celebrates themes of how the power of music can inspire and restore hope like the iconic feature ‘The Commitments’.”

The film is currently screening at various film festivals on both sides of the Atlantic, with news of a general release coming soon. Watch this space!
