Twitter reacts to Nick Clegg’s knighthood announcement
This evening news broke that former deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is set to receive a knighthood.
Social media users have taken to Twitter to discuss the news ahead of the Nee Years Honours list.
Twitter user @RussellLloyd69 tweeted “How on bleeding earth is Nick Clegg getting a knighthood , this man has constantly gone against the British public and put all his efforts into destroying brexit and treacherous behind closed doors meetings with EU officials, what an insult to the British people.”
Whilst @ChrisUTC97 tweeted “New Years Honours are a mockery when people like Nick Clegg are receiving knighthoods on the grounds of being David Cameron’s deputy PM for 5 years.”
Adding into the conversation on Twitter @GeorgeAylett tweeted “Nick Clegg is to receive a knighthood. The man whose legacy will be defined by giving into Tories: trebling tuition fees, bedroom tax + £80 billion in cuts.
At least he engaged a generation of young people to get involved in politics.. they got involved to boot him out of power.”
Mr Clegg lost his Sheffield Hallam seat in this year’s general election.
Before politics, Clegg was a Financial Times journalist and a European Union trade negotiator with the World Trade Organisation
